2.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice and seems well made, but dissapointed with it in action, November 25, 2011

Waiting for this to finally be available after several delays, got it delivered today.

Opened the box and was impressed with how the wheel looked...however it does feel pretty flimsy. Has some nice rubberized grips and the shift paddles are metal and have a nice chunky clunk when you shift them. The pedals and base are a little awkward...unless you have a lot of weight resting on the pad they tend to lift off the ground under heavy brake or accelerator application. The clamping mechanism works pretty well, it stayed securely attached to my table for the 10 minutes I could stomach using it.

In terms of actually in-game use, I'm incredibly dissapointed. I guess part of it is my fault...I knew this wheel had no ForceFeedback but I assumed no one would build a controller without rumble. In the first few moments I realized I shouldn't have assumed this. There is ZERO feedback from games. If you play Forza 4 or F1 2011 in simulation mode, you know how critical it is to... Read more

I'm a huge fan of Forza and I'd wanted to try racing with a decent wheel for the longest time. The old MS one is impossible to find and I wasn't going to fork over $800 for a Fanatec wheel so when this Thrustmaster wheel appeared it looked like the ideal solution.
Sadly, I'm going to have to agree with some of the other reviews. This won't improve your racing. Far from it, in fact. Your lap times will go up 2 to 3 seconds a lap compared to racing with a controller, IF you can keep it in a straight line. In the three weeks I've been racing with it, I've not been able to put my finger on exactly what the problem is but I'm sure it's all to do with the sloppy steering mechanism. There's no force feedback and no rumble, and there's a h-u-g-e dead zone in the middle where there's no resistance from the internal spring mechanism. The result is that the wheel induces oversteer in every car you race because you have no real "feel" for where the wheels are pointing so you always over... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A RELIABLE REVIEW, January 9, 2012
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Thrustmaster VG Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Racing Wheel for Xbox (Accessory)
I have come into contact with 4 of these wheels. Two of them my friend has and two of them I have owned. I got my first of the two wheels on christmas and was really pleased with how it worked... at first. The first thing you notice when using this wheel is that it has about 10-15 degrees in the middle where the wheel can free float. This makes it really hard to straighten yourself out while racing. Secondly, within 2 hours of total play time with this, the first one broke. I was not harsh with it at all but the buttons on the start-stop selector stopped working. Upset and distraught, I sent it back for a replacement. The second one I got broke within a few days. The paddle shifters stopped working and the D-pad (start/stop selector) stopped working too. I am now sending it back and I do not plan on getting another. ON THE OTHER HAND- my friend who has two of them, has had them for a while now and he hasn't experienced any terrible problems with his. Despite the free floating he likes... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Wingman Wheel is fun!, September 29, 2000
By
Brian Wiggins (Calais, Maine United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logitech WingMan Formula Force GP Wheel with Pedals (Personal Computers)
The product arrived in 2 days in good order. It is a good quality wheel with a good feel. The pedals are large enough and well spaced. The wheel comes with an installation CD and a bundled game. The biggest problem I had was during installation. At one point it asks for you to insert the Windows '98 CD into the drive. My Dell computer did not include this CD so I was stuck without a necessary driver. After some time searching the internet, I was able to get the driver and complete the installation. Once over this hurdle, everything went well. The wheel is easy to set up and it works with all the games I have tried. The 6 buttons are easy to program for shifting gears, lights, horn or whatever you wish. By the end of the day the whole family was engrossed in Need For Speed - High Stakes. The force feedback experienced with most games is amazing! You will feel bumps and turns and other cars hitting you. One thing to note is that if you have a heavy foot, the pedals may slide... 4.0 out of 5 stars A very good wheel for only a little money, April 12, 2001
This review is from: Logitech WingMan Formula Force GP Wheel with Pedals (Personal Computers)
The Formula Force GP wheel is a very comfortable, responsive USB steering wheel. I've been running it with Windows 2000, and have had not a bit of trouble with it, in fact, it has added a significant amount of fun and realism to my driving games. This, added to the low price (compared to other wheels) I paid ($49, after rebates) has made the wheel one of the best additions I have made to my computer.

Likes: 1. The rubberized red pads and cut-outs make the wheel much, much nicer than the all-plastic wheels out there 2. The wheel mounts easily and positively to your desk, and doesn't take up too much room 3. Force feedback effects are good 4. Wingman configuration program provides good configurability and control of the wheel 5. Great plug and play USB installation

Gripes: 1. The wheel is too small 2. The pedal base is too light, and should be further secured to prevent sliding 3. Odd noises from the wheel in use (when not drowned out by the game audio)

Overall, a great value and... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of bang for the buck, March 27, 2003

Okay, I'm in my mid 50s and copy of Need For Speed jumped off the shelf into my cart the last time I went shopping. I installed the game and played it for awhile, first using the keyboard (can't be done), and then using a flight yoke I have. That was okay, but braking and accelerating was difficult, and I was all over the place as the yoke just didn't cut it.

Anyway, I was now addicted to this stupid game, so I searched Amazon.com for a "real" steering wheel. After checking the customer reviews I settled on this one. I don't plan on using it all the time, so I didn't want to spend a fortune, and for a few extra bucks the force-feedback feature seemed like it would be fun. It is.

The unit installed easily in Win 98, but I have to agree with another reviewer that the wiring on this thing is nuts. The pedals are already on the floor, so why not attach all the cables to that, then run one cable to the wheel? Also, the USB cable from the wheel to the computer isn't very long... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviewer Mistaken, June 3, 2006

The MC2 Racing Wheel by Mad Catz for the XBOX 360 does have pedals. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was playing on. But, you'll see in the picture that there are pedals. The pedals are removable, so maybe his cousin didn't have them plugged in. For the price, this wheel is the best on the market. There are better wheels out there, if you're willing to shell out the cash. But for the price, this one can't be beat. You will be pleased with this wheel. PGR3 doesn't allow much customization for the MC2 wheel, such as dead zones and sensitivity. But that's more the fault of the game and not the wheel. I'm sure future driving/racing games will allow more customization for this wheel. The problem was PGR3 came out before this wheel was on the market. However, it still works well overall. It may take a little getting used to. The quality of the unit is great. It is comfortable with no-slip soft rubber on the wheel. My previous Mad Catz wheel for my 1st gen xbox still... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Wheel good, communicator connection bad, April 4, 2007
By
Hamp (New England) - See all my reviews
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Wired Racing Wheel (Accessory)
I've had two of these wheels and both had the same problem -- the communicator connection was bad. In races on PGR3, I would get complaints about feedback and a bad connection all the time. So I stopped using the communicator when I raced, which hurt the fun of the game. The wheel itself is fine and I actually prefer it to the MS wheel, which was nearly 3 times as expensive. But the communicator problem is serious, and I've heard other owners of the Mad Catz wheel complain about the same problem. I haven't used this wheel in six months and I'm hoping Mad Catz got enough complaints that they finally did something to correct it. Too bad

4.0 out of 5 stars worth it, June 23, 2006

This review is from: Xbox 360 Wired Racing Wheel (Accessory)
i will make this short. The wheel works with most of the games, but no project gotham racing. The speedometer is fake, but you have a functioning shifter, with pedals. the steering isnt as good as normal controller, but its worth the fun. it can cling to a table, or it has a leg holder so you can keep it on your lap.PARENTS, GREAT GIFT FOR YOUR KID!
