5.0 out of 5 stars great wheel, November 25, 2002
This review is from: Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel (USB) (Personal Computers)
I have had this wheel for over 2 years, and it has been terriffic. It has gone from windows 98 to XP and is just as compatible as ever. It gets used and abused playing all types of games from the dirt track racing series, to formula 1, to nascar 4. It just keeps delievering the realism. I paid 150 bucks for mine, and would pay it again, but now the price has dropped. The forces are as real as it gets, buy this wheel now, you won't be dissapointed.

The value you get from this product will depend upon your dedication to race gaming.

I bought it for my sons who would be using the machine for an hour or two a day. Whilst initial enthusiasm was expressed by all the reality is that the computer is still used as much as it was, but this wheel has not been out of the closet since April. Here are the facts (at least according to us):

a) The base of this unit is huge, so when attached to a fairly standard computer desk with sliding keyboard drawer there is no room for the keyboard too.

b) The unit has three different wires which come from the back of the unit, so these either have to be threaded over the back of the desk each time, or wrap around the front getting caught up in the kids legs.

c) On many of the games we tried the force of the force feedback was much stronger than in typical arcade games, too strong for my 7 year old to handle. (Some games allow this to be altered, but not... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Winner, March 7, 2003
By
This review is from: Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel (USB) (Personal Computers)
I bought this wheel mainly because I wanted my buddy to be able to race with me. He did not have a wheel, so I sold him the one I had and bought this one. Let me tell ya, very good investment. Not to knock Logitecs Wingman Formula Force that I had, but this wheel accells that one by leaps and bounds. It is more precise in control and in the FF mechinisum. I have found only one downfall. Although the clamping mechinisum is solid and hold under extreme forces, it requires a lot of room between your desktop and the top of your keyboard. Over 4". So if you have a desk that has this kind of room..., get it. If not, modify your desk. Or get the Logitec..., it's my second choice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice and seems well made, but dissapointed with it in action, November 25, 2011

Waiting for this to finally be available after several delays, got it delivered today.

Opened the box and was impressed with how the wheel looked...however it does feel pretty flimsy. Has some nice rubberized grips and the shift paddles are metal and have a nice chunky clunk when you shift them. The pedals and base are a little awkward...unless you have a lot of weight resting on the pad they tend to lift off the ground under heavy brake or accelerator application. The clamping mechanism works pretty well, it stayed securely attached to my table for the 10 minutes I could stomach using it.

In terms of actually in-game use, I'm incredibly dissapointed. I guess part of it is my fault...I knew this wheel had no ForceFeedback but I assumed no one would build a controller without rumble. In the first few moments I realized I shouldn't have assumed this. There is ZERO feedback from games. If you play Forza 4 or F1 2011 in simulation mode, you know how critical it is to... Read more

I'm a huge fan of Forza and I'd wanted to try racing with a decent wheel for the longest time. The old MS one is impossible to find and I wasn't going to fork over $800 for a Fanatec wheel so when this Thrustmaster wheel appeared it looked like the ideal solution.
Sadly, I'm going to have to agree with some of the other reviews. This won't improve your racing. Far from it, in fact. Your lap times will go up 2 to 3 seconds a lap compared to racing with a controller, IF you can keep it in a straight line. In the three weeks I've been racing with it, I've not been able to put my finger on exactly what the problem is but I'm sure it's all to do with the sloppy steering mechanism. There's no force feedback and no rumble, and there's a h-u-g-e dead zone in the middle where there's no resistance from the internal spring mechanism. The result is that the wheel induces oversteer in every car you race because you have no real "feel" for where the wheels are pointing so you always over... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A RELIABLE REVIEW, January 9, 2012
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Thrustmaster VG Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Racing Wheel for Xbox (Accessory)
I have come into contact with 4 of these wheels. Two of them my friend has and two of them I have owned. I got my first of the two wheels on christmas and was really pleased with how it worked... at first. The first thing you notice when using this wheel is that it has about 10-15 degrees in the middle where the wheel can free float. This makes it really hard to straighten yourself out while racing. Secondly, within 2 hours of total play time with this, the first one broke. I was not harsh with it at all but the buttons on the start-stop selector stopped working. Upset and distraught, I sent it back for a replacement. The second one I got broke within a few days. The paddle shifters stopped working and the D-pad (start/stop selector) stopped working too. I am now sending it back and I do not plan on getting another. ON THE OTHER HAND- my friend who has two of them, has had them for a while now and he hasn't experienced any terrible problems with his. Despite the free floating he likes... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with Fanatec wheel or pedals, November 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Playseat Limited Edition Forza Motorsport 4 Racing Seat (Sports)
I just received the Forza 4 Playseat and a Forza 4 Fanatec wheel and the CSR Elite pedals. I was very disappointed to find that neither the steering wheel or the pedals fit the playseat. Given that the description clearly states that they are compatible and that the Fanatec and the seat are Forza 4 special edition, they should work together, right? Even more disappointing is that I tried to get customer service from playseat.com and they told me that they are only resellers. They would not tell me how to contact the actual playseat people to get this fixed. All they would really need to make it work is a plate with holes at the right place for the steering wheel. It is possible to drill holes yourself to make it work but with the seat selling for $500 and the wheel for $250, I don't expect to have to drill holes to make it fit. Worse is the pedals. The plate for the pedals is to short by several inches. There is no way with the current plate to attach the CSR pedals securely to the... Read more

Fanatec CSR Elite Steering Wheel:
Initially when I received this product the steering wheel plate was not pre-drilled for Fanatec steering wheels. However, after some research on this, I found out that Playseat were working on getting the correct wheel plates and are sending it out to any customers that require it so that the customer does not have to drill the holes themselves. This is at no charge to the customer. You can find out more from Playseats web site or their Facebook page.

I received the new pre-drilled plate and it lined up perfectly to my CSR Elite wheel (using the angle brackets included with the wheel). The only thing is that they only pre-drilled two holes (one for each side) instead of four holes. They told me this is by design and it is sufficient. Upon my testing, the two holes was indeed sufficient to hold down the CSR Elite wheel without any issues.

The only gripe is I wish the position of the wheel was a bit more adjustable as I would... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, December 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Playseat Limited Edition Forza Motorsport 4 Racing Seat (Sports)
It worked perfectly for me. It does include all 4 holes to mount the Clubsport pedals since the base is smaller than the CSR Elite pedals. However, I had to drill holes for the Fanatec CSR wheel which is temporarily since Playseat will be sending free updated wheel plates if u purchase this seat. They expect to ship the plates on 12/15...lets see if it holds true...

I was looking for a Buttkicker Gamer2 but those are on backorder everywhere and I heard those are not strong enough so I went ahead and purchased a Pearl Throne Thumper (15% off in Amazon) which is made by Buttkicker and is basically a Buttkicker Advance transducer with a paint job and a 200 watt Amp. It works wonders and its easy to mount if you follow AKATrent's guide in YouTube, I soldered the socked instead of using just a bolt. And I can also use it with my Roland TD20 :-)
